Can PRP Injections Help Shoulder Pain?

Shoulder pain is disruptive and disabling for most of my patients. With recent advances in medicine, there are now new options for treating painful shoulder issues. Many of my patients ask about an alternative treatment for shoulder pain. Platelet-rich plasma therapy has gained promising results to help the body to decrease inflammation and to regenerate from an injury.

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP therapy is a relatively new treatment to eliminate pain caused by injuries to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and osteoarthritis. PRP is obtained from the patient’s own blood using a machine called a centrifuge. Using the process provides a high concentration of platelets, the cells in the blood responsible for making clots. Platelets also have the ability to release molecules which can decrease inflammation and subsequently pain. PRP injections use the power of your platelets and growth factors to heal and repair damaged areas within the shoulder.
