Is Outpatient Hip Replacement Right for You?

Did you know that hip replacement has become one of the most common and most successful surgeries in medicine? Traditionally, this surgery is performed through a large incision that would require the patient to be hospitalized for days following the procedure. However, with new technology and modern procedural protocols, outpatient hip replacement has become a common option for many patients.

Outpatient hip replacement typically involves less invasive surgery, enabling patients to go home that same day. Studies have shown that outpatient same-day surgery is just as safe as inpatient surgery for adequately selected and prepared patients.1

Some factors make it possible for patients considering same-day surgery to qualify for this procedure. Are you between the ages of 18 and 70? As some assistance will be needed in the first few days following the procedure, do you have a family member or friend who can help you? Are you at a healthy weight with no significant medical conditions? Patients with other serious multiple medical conditions may require monitoring and will need to stay in the hospital a day or two following the joint replacement. We will discuss these questions, assess your health, and develop the best surgical plan for you.

With same-day hip replacement surgery, many patients can recover in the privacy and comfort of their own homes. Thanks to advancements in technology and modern medicine, hip replacement surgery has become more efficient, effective, and comfortable.
